The developer behind Flaxby Park, which plans to transform Flaxby’s disused golf course into a new sustainable community creating new homes and jobs, is holding a second showcasing event in early November.

It will take place at the Dower House in Knaresborough on Wednesday 7th November from 3 – 7pm and follows a similar event held in Harrogate last month, where unanimous support was received from local residents, businesses and Harrogate Chamber of Commerce members. Anyone interested in attending this latest event should email their details to RSVP@flaxbypark.com

Currently the planning application for 2,750 high quality homes, with a charming village centre, alongside a retirement village, two primary schools, a GP surgery, sports facilities and a hotel remains stalled.

Harrogate Borough Council’s Draft Local Plan, recommended that the new settlement should be built in an undefined area around Hammerton and Cattal, rather than Flaxby, and the plan has been submitted to the Secretary of State and is awaiting an independent inspection.

Chris Musgrave from Flaxby Park Ltd. said: “Almost 100 people came to our last showcasing event and the overriding comments were of shock and disappointment that Harrogate Borough Council is recommending that thousands of new homes should be built on a broad location around Hammerton and Cattal rather than at Flaxby. Lots of people who couldn’t come to see us in Harrogate have since contacted us, so we’re hosting another event to give even more local people the opportunity to find out about our plans and share their views.

“The land there is owned by more than 15 separate landowners and the Council’s Draft Local Plan housing trajectory states that the first housing completions from those proposals would not be until 2024/25! We own the land at Flaxby and could have the first homes completed within a year of getting the go-ahead.

“Another concern people had regarding the Hammerton development was the poor rail and road infrastructure and the disruption that will be caused by the proposed re-routing of the A59. Our site is right next to the A1, with an already installed new roundabout onto the A59. We also plan to reopen Goldsborough Railway Station paying for and building a new 350 park and ride station offering direct rail services to Harrogate, Leeds and York. Plus, electric buses and cycle paths will provide alterative transport options for Flaxby Park residents.”

Flaxby Park gained overwhelming support from the attendees of the Harrogate event, which included first time buyers wanting to reserve a home. Chris added: “Our location directly opposite a new employment site – Flaxby Green Business Park – is a huge benefit. So many new homes developments on the outskirts of towns leave residents commuting for hours in their cars, but at Flaxby Park people could walk or cycle to work at the Business Park over the road, jump on a bus or train or join the motorway in minutes.

“We are hoping to attract even more local residents, businesses based in Knaresborough and local Councillors, to our event at the Dower House so we can clearly show why Flaxby Park really is the best option for a new settlement that will help meet the housing needs of the Harrogate District.”

CGI images, detailed plans and more will all be on display at the Dower House and one of the region’s most respected architects, Michael Wildblood MBE, of architecture practice Wildblood Macdonald, alongside development director Matt Johnson, from Flaxby Park Ltd. will be available to answer any questions.
